Policies: Elmernet Computer Use Policies

Rasmuson Library public computers are intended for research and educational purposes. Online catalogs, article databases, full-text resources, and scholarly websites are available to all library users on all non-library-staff computers in the library, without need for a password. Access to the open Internet* is available to UAF students, UAF faculty, and UAF and UA Statewide staff via their passwords on all non- library-staff computers, and to the general public on a limited number of designated non-login computers on Level 4. The following guidelines apply to use of all student and public use computers at the library.

1. Priority is given to UAF students, UAF faculty and UAF and UA Statewide staff.
2. At peak times, use of the computers may be limited to 30 minutes per person per session.
3. Notwithstanding (1) and (2), library patrons accessing federal depository resources will not be asked to give up their computers to other library users.
4. Computer users are not to use computer audio at volume levels that may disturb other patrons.
5. Viewing or printing out obscene (illegal) material is prohibited.
6. Viewing sexually explicit material where others can see it is prohibited.
7. The computers are intended for research purposes, not for commercial, recreational, or other personal, non-academic uses. Research use is always the top priority.
8. Sleeping at the computers is not allowed.
9. Faculty who wish to use library computers for single class sessions are encouraged to schedule a hands-on course- related instruction session in advance with a librarian in Room 301 (Microlab).
10. Laptops and other personal computing devices are welcome in the library. All patrons may connect personal equipment to the wireless network.
11. Patrons may not unplug any library equipment or cables for any reason. Use of personal equipment must not pose a safety hazard for others (e.g., stretching power cords across walkways).

Use of library computers is subject to applicable UA, UAF and Rasmuson Library policies. Failure to comply with these policies may result in the loss of Rasmuson Library privileges and access to library computers, as well as university disciplinary action and/or legal action.
