Study Carrels

Students interested in using a carrel can contact us at 907-474-6762 or email uaf-library-rascirc@alaska.edu for information or to ask about current availability or wait-list placement. 

Short-Term Use

  • Eligibility: Graduate or Undergraduate students.
  • Availability:
    • 4 study carrels are available for a 2-week checkout, with one renewal, subject to availability.
    • 2 study carrels are available for 1-day checkout, due at closing, up to twice a week, subject to availability.
    • 1 accessible study carrel is available for short- or long-term use, subject to availability.Wheelchair Accessible icon

Short-Term Use (Zoom Rooms)

Short-term "Zoom rooms," are sound dampening and are fully closed from floor to ceiling. These rooms are intended for students attending online classes or engaged in teleconferences. Talking and some computer noise are allowed and expected.

  • Eligibility: Graduate or Undergraduate students.
  • Availability: Zoom rooms can be booked on the spot (if available) or in advance, for a maximum of one day. Advance bookings may not repeat for an entire semester.

Long-Term Use

Long-term individual study carrels are intended to facilitate the work of graduate students who need long-term access to materials in the Rasmuson Library’s collections.

  • Eligibility: Graduate students; undergraduate students (lower priority).
  • Availability: Study carrels are available to current graduate students for one semester (or two summer sessions), with a one semester renewal option. Undergraduates may apply for carrels after the first three (3) weeks of the semester, with no renewal option. Patrons must reapply for additional semesters.

Late Fees

The late fee for returning carrel keys is .50 cents per hour.
