Zotero: A Citation Management Tool: Adding Resources

Adding Resources to Your Zotero Library

There are several ways you can add items to your Zotero library. Below we'll cover adding items via:

Using a Zotero Connector

Getting Started with a Zotero Connector

  • Before using the Zotero connector, make sure your Zotero desktop application is open and that you have installed a Zotero connector for the browser you're using.
  • The icon for the connector looks different for different browsers.

Safari There are bugs with the Zotero icon appearing in Safari. Read more.  We recommend using a browser other than Safari.

Dragging a PDF into Zotero

You can drag a PDF file from your desktop into Zotero.

If you choose this option, it's important to look at the information that Zotero obtained, as you may need to edit this information.

In the example below, after dragging a book chapter PDF into a library, I see that much of the information for this book chapter is incorrect and missing.

To edit this information, click next to the field you'd like to edit. For example, to edit the Edition field, click the space next to Edition.
