Scholarly Publishing and Copyright

This guide is intended for UAF faculty and researchers, and students or staff who are involved in publishing or using provisions of copyright law for teaching or research. This guide is not intended as legal advice.

Permissions for Use in Teaching

Sharing Articles

The best way to share copyrighted journal articles with your class is to link to the article from Blackboard to the Library's subscribed copy. From off campus the student may have to log in to use the article, the process will be fairly seamless, and every use will be counted, thereby supporting the library's justification for the subscription. Putting the pdf into Blackboard is also possible, but if you are using the article every semester, you may need to get permission to do so if you directly share a pdf. By linking to the Library subscription, no permission is needed; that right is built into our publisher license agreements.

For additional questions, please consult the Library's Reference Desk.
