Explore the heart of our community by diving into the stories that connect all Alaskans!
The Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives (APRCA) department at the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Elmer E. Rasmuson Library is holding an open house to showcase collections focused on community.
This free event is open to the public and will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Floor of the Rasmuson Library on the UAF campus.
Parking on campus is free for visitors after 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise designated.
The APRCA Open House promises a unique opportunity to experience carefully preserved historical memorabilia and to talk with our archivists and curators.
Exhibits will feature school yearbooks from across Alaska, community cookbooks, historical film footage of parades and a whaling festival, and Communities of Memory oral histories.
Archival collections featuring Alaska Native communities, Alaska towns, and UAF will also be on display.
The Alaska Native Language Archive (ANLA) will also participate with an exhibit on language communities.
While supplies last, enjoy complimentary refreshments and snacks before entering the archives to view exhibits.
Before or after the open house, peruse the Rasmuson Library’s Alaska book sale. This sale of used and donated duplicate books will take place during regular library hours from October 14 to 24, 2024.
