BioSciences Library to Close June 30, 2014

Fairbanks, Alaska—The UAF BioSciences Library is slated to be closed on June 30, 2014. Students and faculty will be able to use the library as usual until that date. After June 30, library materials will be borrowed through the Keith B. Mather or Rasmuson libraries or by using standard inter-library loan procedures.

A core collection of reference materials and current journals will be transferred to the Mather in June, as will frequently borrowed items.

Enabling the space to be used by services being brought from off-campus is in keeping with university cost-saving measures.

Also in June, Science Librarian Steven Hunt will open an office in the Mather Library to provide reference and research services. Other BioSciences library staff will move to Rasmuson Library and will be available via phone and email to provide patron services, including pulling and reserving materials and answering general questions.

A committee of UAF leadership, faculty users and library staff are working on the details of the move. Committee members are: Provost Susan Henrichs; Dean of Libraries Bella Gerlich; from Mather Library, Flora Grabowska; from Rasmuson Library, Karen Jensen, Suzan Hahn, John Kawula and Kit Shannon; from BioSciences Library, Katherine O’Brien; from IAB and Biology and Wildlife, Perry Barboza; from CNSM, Brian Edmonds; from SNRE, John Yarie; from SFOS, Russell Hopcroft; and, from the UA Museum of the North, Stefanie Ickert-Bond. Patrons may contact members directly or leave comments on the blog.
