See our Library Services Updates page for information about changes to Rasmuson Library Services.

UAF students, staff, and faculty can now enter the library to pick out or to return their own materials, accessing the library by PolarExpress card.

Public library patrons can again place holds on our materials through the public library's catalog. Items can be picked up at the Noel Wien Library or the North Pole Branch.

University patrons who are reluctant to enter the library can still check materials out by appointment. Set an appointment to pick up items.

Community and School Group Visits

The Rasmuson Library frequently receives inquiries from off-campus groups interested in arranging a tour or orientation to the library, and we welcome community use of Rasmuson resources and Reference services.

General informational guided tours, conducted by Rasmuson Student Tour Guides, may be arranged a week in advance and are dependent upon availability of student guides. Teachers or group leaders may conduct their own tours but please let us know in advance of your planned visit. Informational handouts and guided tour maps are available and are very helpful for conducting your own library orientation. For more information, contact Ilana Kingsley at

If your group is specifically interested in visiting and learning about the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections and Archives, please contact them directly at: or phone them at 907-474-6400.
