Reserves

Copyright Issues

At the request of a faculty member, photocopies of articles or chapters of books may be placed on reserve. Under the fair use guidelines photocopies of these materials may be made without requiring permission from the copyright owner. One copy for every 10-15 students in the class is the number recommended in the ALA Model Policy Concerning College and University Photocopying for Classroom, Research and Library Reserve Use (March 1982).

Placing Material on Reserve

Things to Note Before Placing Material on Reserve

  • Reserve materials must be submitted at least 1 week prior to the date needed by students, in order to guarantee availability for checkout. Requests to put materials on reserve are processed in the order received.
  • Instructors may place personal copies and/or library materials on Reserve for up to two semesters. We encourage instructors to place materials on Reserve which are in short supply or which are going to be assigned to the whole class to read/view independently.
