Small Group Instruction

Small groups of UAF students may schedule a library instruction session by appointment. Small-group instruction is especially beneficial when a group of interested students wants to learn to use a specific information tool (a database, the catalog, a periodical index, google scholar) or wishes to learn about a specific area of the library (Government Documents, Archives, etc.).

To schedule a small group session contact Diane Ruess at (907) 474- 6349 or ffder@uaf.edu.

Collection Development

The Collection Development Officer oversees the evaluation, selection, and management of materials in the general collections at the Rasmuson Library, including books, periodicals, serials, videos, scores, recorded music, electronic resources, and many other materials.

The Collection Development Officer also coordinates the library liaison outreach efforts to all University of Alaska Fairbanks campus academic departments, in order to support the research and teaching needs of all UAF faculty and researchers. Library liaisons also select collection materials for graduate and undergraduate students, ensuring a wide breadth of information and a rich educational experience for all students at the UAF Libraries. Although we have liaisons to all departments, we do not necessarily have subject specialists for all disciplines, so faculty input is critical to the strength of our collections; please let us know if you have concerns or questions. We are also happy to make targeted presentations of our online databases and library catalog to your academic department or class. To arrange such a presentation, please call or email Diane Ruess at 474-6349, deruess@alaska.edu.

The Collection Development librarian establishes and maintains cooperative collection development agreements with other local, state, and regional libraries, which allow access for UAF library patrons to materials not owned by the UAF libraries.

Collection and gift policies are the responsibility of the Collection Development Officer, and questions about those policies may be directed to: karen.jensen@alaska.edu.

As a UAF student, faculty or staff member, your input on our collections is valuable. Suggestions for specific items or subject areas are greatly appreciated. If you'd like to make a suggestion, you may use our online forms (see below) or contact the Collection Development Officer, Karen Jensen, directly for an appointment, 474-6695, karen.jensen@alaska.edu.
