overdue items

What if I have overdue Interlibrary Loan materials?

If you have ILL material that is overdue, a notice will be sent to you. If the item is not returned you will be blocked both from further ILL loan activity and general borrowing from the library.

If an item has not been returned 3 weeks after its due date, it will be invoiced (to you) for replacement fees. When an item has been invoiced, a block is placed on your patron ID. This block suspends all library privileges. When the item is returned or paid for, basic library privileges are reinstated. However, ILL privileges are still suspended for 60 days.

Check-out Policies for Hard Copy Reserve Materials

  • Patrons may check out up to three Reserve items at one time.
  • Material circulating from the Reserve Desk is subject to strict time limits. Overdue materials accrue fines at the rate of .25/hour.
  • Reserve materials may not be renewed.
  • Return reserve materials to the Reserve Desk in the library; Do not put into outside book drops.

Media Equipment Overdue Policy

Your ability to check out media equipment is a privilege that depends upon the timely return of equipment by ALL users; students, faculty and staff. Much of the Library's media equipment is heavily scheduled. When patrons return equipment late by even a short time, they may cause major difficulties for another person or even an entire class. Therefore, we enforce the following policies:

Charges for Overdue, Damaged, or Lost Material

  • For each lost or destroyed item there is a $60 minimum charge.
  • If the overdue item is returned in good condition, there will be no charge (excluding media equipment and reserves).
  • Overdue media equipment may result in permanent loss of equipment checkout privileges. Refer to the Media Equipment Overdue Policy for details.
  • Overdue reserve materials accrue fines at the rate of 25 cents per hour, starting at the top of the hour after the item is overdue.
