Student-of-the-Semester Award Guidelines
The Elmer E. Rasmuson Library Student-of-the-Semester is chosen from among current Student Assistants employed by the Library, by the members of the EOTQ committee. Nominations may be made by any employee (staff, faculty, or student) of the Rasmuson Library, as well as any other University employee or Library patron. Nominations will not be accepted from the Library Dean or any current member of the EOTQ Committee. Awards will be given in Fall Semester, Spring Semester and one for the Summer, three total per year.
Guidelines for Nominations
Nominations must be in writing. They may be submitted via web form, email to EOTQ-L@lists.uaf.edu, or by written form of communication. Please submit any paper copy nominations to the Chair of the EOTQ Committee. Verbal nominations cannot be accepted. Department Heads and/or supervisors are encouraged to submit as nominations any written communication received from patrons, vendors, companies, etc., which mention a specific student for outstanding service. Nominations may not be anonymous.
The nominations should be specific (if possible) to the semester in which the student employee is nominated. The nomination should specifically describe how the student has performed his/her job above and beyond the requirements of the position. For example, describe how the nominee met specific goals or accomplishments during the past quarter, consistently performed above average, or went out of his/her way to assist fellow employees and patrons. Qualities/accomplishments that distinguish the nominee should be clearly described as the Committee will choose the SOS based on the written nominations received. The Committee will consider all other nominations received during the current calendar year only if there are no other nominations for the current quarter.
An employee who receives the SOS award will not be eligible to win the award again until the following calendar year. Any student who has already been awarded the Employee-of-the-Quarter award during the year is not eligible for the SOS award until the following calendar year. The Committee will select the SOS after reviewing all nominations. If there is no unanimous choice, the decision will be made based on a majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chair will make the final decision.
Prior to conferring the award, the Chair of the EOTQ Committee will contact the nominee's direct supervisor for support/concurrence. The reason being: to make sure no disciplinary actions, etc. are presently underway towards the nominee, which, if not known, could be problematic. The Chair of the EOTQ Committee will inform the Dean of the selection, provide him/her with appropriate written documentation, which the Dean will read aloud at the coffee hour upon conferring the award.
The SOS Award
The Student-of-the-Semester will receive a $100 award to be paid in the next available pay run and the nomination to be placed in the employee's personnel file.
