Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows you to borrow books, documents and other materials that are not available from UAF Rasmuson Library. Interlibrary loan is free for all UAF students, staff and faculty.

The ILL system at UAF Rasmuson Library is named Illiad. To use Illiad, you must first register as a " First Time User!" You will need your Polar Express number to complete the form. Be sure to click the "Submit" button. You only need to register once.

Submitting Interlibrary Loan Requests via Library Databases

ILL requests can be submitted directly through some library databases.  Each database handles ILL requests differently.

  1. Look for and click the Find It findit.png link.
  2. Click the Request this item through interlibrary loan! link.

  3. Log into ILLiad using the username/password you set up when you signed up for Interlibrary Loan.
  4. Follow the ILLiad directions.
  5. Note, most data will be transferred to the ILLiad request form, however double check that the information is correct.

Submitting a Request Manually

Submit your interlibrary loan request online through Illiad.

To request an item via ILL you must provide a complete citation for the item you wish to request:

  • For a book request, provide:
Title, the author's last name, the place of publication, publisher's name, and date of publication.
  • For an article request, you will want to provide:
Author and title of the article; name of the journal or source; the volume, issue and page numbers; and the date of publication.

Viewing Outstanding Requests and Retrieving Documents

Once a request has been submitted, its status can be monitored through Illiad. Access Illiad via Interlibrary Loan (https://uaf.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html). Log into Illiad using the username and password you chose when you registered in Illiad. Then select "View/Modify Outstanding Requests"

Photocopied articles can also be retrieved off the web via Illiad. Web Documents are sent in .pdf format (also known as page images), so you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on the computer you use for retrieval. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Readers installed, or if you need to download the latest version, go to the Adobe Acrobat Reader Download site.

Hard copy printed books cannot be transferred online. Books can be picked up at Rasmuson Library.

Visit Interlibrary Loan for more information on ILL, policies, copyright, and FAQs.
