UAF students, staff, and faculty can now enter the library to pick out or to return their own materials, accessing the library by PolarExpress card.

Public library patrons can again place holds on our materials through the public library's catalog. Items can be picked up at the Noel Wien Library or the North Pole Branch.

University patrons who are reluctant to enter the library can still check materials out by appointment. Set an appointment to pick up items.

Alaska Newspapers

Rasmuson Library subscribes to 33 current newspapers from Alaska and northwestern Canada. We have over 5700 reels of Alaska newspaper microfilm, representing more than 500 different newspapers.

Finding Alaska Newspapers in Rasmuson Library

To find the call number of a specific newspaper:

  1. In the Library Catalog, using the Title limiter, type the name of the newspaper in the search box. If you know the exact title, put the title in quotation marks.
  2. Click Search.

Example: a search for Nome Nugget will lead you to current paper copies, microfilm backfiles, and variant titles such as Nome Daily Nugget.

To find the call number of newspapers from a specific town:

  1. In the Library Catalog, using the All Fields limiter, type name of the town plus the item format. The format is usually Newspapers but sometimes it can be Periodicals, so try searching for both.
  2. Click Search.

  3. If necessary, use the Subject limiter on the left to limit your search.
    To use the limiter, check the desired box and then click Include.
    Make sure to click the Include button after selecting a limiter
