How do I find dissertations or theses?

There are a number of different ways to search for dissertations. Rasmuson Library collects printed bound copies of Master's theses and Doctoral dissertations completed at UAF; some but not all of these are also available electronically.

For print copies of UAF theses and dissertations:

  • Search the Library Catalog and limit your search to UAF Fairbanks Campus Libraries.
  • Try searching for the terms thesis, "university of alaska" (put "university of alaska" in quotation marks), and then use a broad term, such as engineering or education.

To search for theses and dissertations from other institutions:

  • Many of our library databases index theses and dissertations from other institutions, including foreign universities. Select a database in your subject area to see if it provides indexing to these materials. If you find one indexed and need to obtain a copy, submit an Interlibrary Loan request. Print copies of theses can take 2-4 weeks to obtain, and cost the library about $50 each, so please make sure you really need it and will use it before requesting one!
