Employee-of-the-Quarter Award Guidelines
The Elmer E. Rasmuson Library Employee-of-the-Quarter is chosen from among currently employed staff, students, and faculty of the Library. Nominations may be made by any employee (staff, faculty, or student) of the Rasmuson Library, as well as any other University employee or Library patron. Nominations will not be accepted from the Library Dean or any current member of the EOTQ Committee, nor are they eligible for nomination for the award. Committee members represent at least one person from each library department, chosen by the Department Head, and may or may not be the prior year's award recipients.
Guidelines for Nominations
Nominations must be in writing. They may be submitted via web form, email to EOTQ-L@lists.uaf.edu, or by written form of communication. Please submit any paper copy nominations to the Chair of the EOTQ Committee. Verbal nominations cannot be accepted. Department Heads and/or supervisors are encouraged to submit as nominations any written communication received from patrons, vendors, companies, etc., which mention a specific employee for outstanding service. Nominations may not be anonymous.
The nominations should be specific (if possible) to the quarter in which the employee is nominated. The nomination should specifically describe how the employee has performed his/her job above and beyond the requirements of the position. For example, describe how the nominee displays a positive attitude, is a positive influence on others, met specific goals or accomplishments during the past quarter, consistently performes above and beyond assigned duties, went out of his/her way to assist fellow employees and patrons, exhibits outstanding work ethics, or offers new and innovative ideas resulting in improvement of services or processes. Qualities/accomplishments that distinguish the nominee should be clearly described as the Committee will choose the EOTQ based on the written nominations received. The Committee will consider all other nominations received during the current calendar year only if there are no other nominations for the current quarter.
An employee who receives the EOTQ award will not be eligible to win the award again until the following calendar year. The Committee will select the EOTQ after reviewing all nominations. If there is no unanimous choice, the decision will be made based on a majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chair will make the final decision.
Prior to conferring the award, the Chair of the EOTQ Committee will contact the nominee's department head/direct supervisor for support/concurrence. The reason being: to make sure no disciplinary actions, etc. are presently underway towards the nominee, which, if not known, could be problematic. The Chair of the EOTQ Committee will inform the Dean of the selection, provide him/her with appropriate written documentation, which the Dean will read aloud at the coffee hour upon conferring the award.
The EOTQ Award
The Employee-of-the-Quarter will receive a $300 award to be paid in the next available pay run and the nomination will be placed in the employee's personnel file.
