How do I hook the data projector up to my laptop?

Instructions for setting up your PC Laptop with a Data Projector

  1. Plug the PC into the outlet – DO NOT TURN ON YET!
  2. Connect the blue or beige male end of the VGA cord into the female jack on the back of the PC – the UAF laptop jacks have a little rectangular monitor icon next to the jack.
  3. Plug the other end into the same kind of jack on the data projector (RGB 1).
  4. Plug in data projector – Take lens cap off.
  5. TURN ON DATA PROJECTOR FIRST – press standby ON one time.
  6. Turn on PC second!
  7. Wait a second – The Windows desktop should come up on the data projector projection. If not, hold down the Fn button on the lower left side of the keyboard, and hit F8 – this toggles the computer between keyboard control using the data projection only, the PC screen only, and the PC screen and the data projector both. Sometimes the F8 key will have a little “screen” icon or the letters CRT or LCD on it.
  1. When done with presentation, TURN OFF THE LAPTOP FIRST!
  2. Turn off data projector second – press standby / on *twice* – do not UNPLUG data projector until the fan stops – usually about two minutes or so. This saves the very expensive bolb.

The instructions remain the same with the Mac Book, but the white adaptor is smaller – use the little screen icon on the white adaptor to match it up to the laptop – the other end that goes to the data projector is the same. The toggle switch for desktop control on the Mac Book is F6, not F8.
