See our Library Services Updates page for information about changes to Rasmuson Library Services.

UAF students, staff, and faculty can now enter the library to pick out or to return their own materials, accessing the library by PolarExpress card.

Public library patrons can again place holds on our materials through the public library's catalog. Items can be picked up at the Noel Wien Library or the North Pole Branch.

University patrons who are reluctant to enter the library can still check materials out by appointment. Set an appointment to pick up items.

Collection Development

The Collection Development Officer oversees the evaluation, selection, and management of materials in the general collections at the Rasmuson Library, including books, periodicals, serials, videos, scores, recorded music, electronic resources, and many other materials, in order to support the research and teaching needs of all UAF faculty, researchers and students. The Libraries do not have subject specialists for all disciplines, so faculty input is critical to the strength of our collections; please let us know if you have concerns or questions.

The Collection Development librarian establishes and maintains cooperative collection development agreements with other local, state, and regional libraries, which allow access for UAF library patrons to materials not owned by the UAF libraries.

Collection policies and gift policies are the responsibility of the Collection Development Officer, and questions about those policies may be directed to:

As a UAF student, faculty or staff member, your input on our collections is valuable. Suggestions for specific items or subject areas are greatly appreciated. If you'd like to make a suggestion, you may use our online forms or contact the Collection Development Officer, Karen Jensen, directly for an appointment, 474-6695,
