UAF students, staff, and faculty can now enter the library to pick out or to return their own materials, accessing the library by PolarExpress card.

Public library patrons can again place holds on our materials through the public library's catalog. Items can be picked up at the Noel Wien Library or the North Pole Branch.

University patrons who are reluctant to enter the library can still check materials out by appointment. Set an appointment to pick up items.

Study Carrels

Carrels may be used on a short-term or long-term basis. Students interested in using a carrel can contact the Circulation Desk at (907) 474-6762 or email uaf-library-rascirc@alaska.edu for information or to ask about current availability or wait-list placement. Late fees are 50 cents per hour.

Short-Term Use

  • Eligibility: Graduate or Undergraduate students.
  • Check out period:
    • 5 study carrels are available for a 2-week checkout, with one renewal, subject to availability.
    • 2 study carrels are available for 1-day checkout, due at closing, up to twice a week, subject to availability.

Long-Term Use

Long-term individual study carrels are intended to facilitate the work of graduate students who need long-term access to materials in the Rasmuson Library’s collections.

  • Eligibility: Graduate students.
  • Check out period: Study carrels are available to current grad students for one semester (or two summer sessions), with a one semester renewal option. Patrons must reapply for additional semesters.
