Thursday afternoon three excursions were offered. I went on the Riverboat Discovery. This is a large sternwheeler with a capacity of 900 people, captained by woman who is a third-generation captain. We were treated to a float plane show alongside the ship, with the pilot demonstrating landings and take-offs. The ship paused at the Dave Monson’s sled dog kennels, where Dave demonstrated a dog team pulling a small all-terraine vehicle. We were able to get off and visit a reconstruction of Chena Village, where we observed salmon smoking, got close to reindeer, and saw some beautiful Athabascan traditional clothing.
