Hi All! Your local arrangements committee is working like crazy to get the information you need: so please be patient with us! We should have a conference registration form, registration prices, and housing information to you by the first or second week of March. We’ll have the program to you even sooner than that.
We understand that many of you are trying to make arrangements soon because of the distance and for forthcoming budget or grant deadlines. We know that, and we’re trying to be as responsive as possible.
If you have any questions about conference logistics beyond those listed above, please feel free to contact me: Arlene Schmuland. arlene at uaa.alaska.edu
The Greater Anchorage (Alaska) Chapter of ARMA has agreed to partner with NWA to make this a joint conference. Visit their website to learn about their current activities. This means an expanded program, lots of stimulating discussion on areas of common interest and concern, and some great opportunities to get to know our information colleagues. As part of this new partnership, we’ve added a day to the main program as well as some additional workshops. New dates are May 27-31, 2008.
Local arrangements is struggling a bit because we have no idea how many people to expect. We’ve heard a lot of excitement, so it could be a lot; on the other hand, it is an expensive trip. So, help us out by taking this very brief (3 questions!) survey (password is nwa): Click Here to take survey
I just finished reading a blog post from Library Revolution entitled “A comment about comments” that discusses how frequently library blogs treat their blog as a press release rather than an actual Web 2.0 social site encouraging interaction. With that in mind, I realized we should be inviting more participation here. So, from now on as the local arrangements committee begins to develop its plans, we will post some of our ideas and musings and invite comments and suggestions from you–the actual attendees. Novel concept, I know! (For the time being you will need to sign up at http://library.uaf.edu/blogs/wp-getusername.php We are working for a way around the University’s obnoxiously cautious domain issues).
Here are a few ideas we are currently pondering:
I’ve added a few of the basic links to travel information: the state’s travel office, the NPS Alaska, and the Alaska Railroad. This should get you started in planning your trip.
Meeting dates have been set for May 27-31. This is the week following Memorial Day, so you could extend your trip with a bit of personal time or even take the ferry up, if you like!
